    1967 Sunbeam Alpine

    Chassis number B 395008984 LRX

Rich has seen some of our Youtube videos about Sunbeam Alpines we have saved. He calls and wants to have his car restored.  It has been garaged for some 30 years near Salton Sea CA.  He and his brother shared the car and it was parked after damaging (melting a giant hole in) the cylinder head.

May 5, 2020. The car is delivered to us.  It needs everything but it is solid and appears to never have had body damage or repair. Rich wants to have his baby back and we get started on a 3.5 year program of returning his car to Day 2 condition. Day 2 means very close to stock but sporting a few upgrades.

The body was stripped of every nut and bolt. Light metal work was performed and the body was prepped for show quality paintwork.  The correct Sunbeam color Carnival Red was applied as a base coat with a clear coat applied over. Once cured, the paint was hand color sanded and polished to a high luster.

Chrome and Stainless trim were refinished.

All rubber was removed and replaced.

All glass was removed, cleaned and repaired as required with new seals, weatherstrip etc. Cranks and knobs were rechromed.

New lenses and lights were fitted.

A new convertible top was fitted over the restored top frame and a tonneau was fitted.

The interior was updated as follows:

    • Burlwood dash with matching glove box door
    • Matching Burlwood shift knob
    • Padded dash.
    • Factory bucket seats were reupholstered in black with red piping and embroidered Sunbeam logos. The logo’s colors were changed slightly to match this car’s red and black theme.

    • A New Old Stock 1725 engine block was procured
    • A cylinder head was acquired and sent for updating. New sodium valves and seals allow for the use of modern unleaded fuels.

    • A two barrel Weber downdraft carburetor and intake was added.
    • A fitted stainless steel exhaust system was installed.
    • The radiator was serviced and pressure tested. An overflow tank was added.
    • Both fuel tanks were removed, repaired and epoxy lined.

    • The underside of the body pan is Raptor coated.

Keys were not present with the vehicle.  Necessary keys were acquired and cylinders rekeyed.

Rich picked up his car on Dec 14, 2023.
