Thanks for stopping by to take a look at our very cool 1970 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible. This original California car is an excellent, rust free, example of which there are very few left. Fresh respray in Competition Orange Pearl Metallic, she really stands out.
Conceived as a sister car to Ford’s Mustang, the Cougar was the refined older brother. Provided with plenty of go fast from the legendary 351 Cleveland mill and a superior ride and handling, the Cougar XR7 was for those who had arrived. The two cars share a lot of common parts which makes repairs inexpensive with widely available parts.
As opposed to the Mustang, seeing a Cougar in the wild is relatively rare. And it’s certainly nice driving something different from the crowd.
The Gen 2 Cougar was only made for two years, 1969 and 1970. Most were driven hard and relatively few remain in the wild today. The top of the line XR7 cars like this one had leather interiors and nice upgrades. Of course, the convertibles were a small percentage of overall production. This rare-ish 70 XR7 Convertible is particularly hard to duplicate with it’s original leather interior and low original mileage. Our research shows few cars of this caliber are available.
